By John M Oldham MD

Recently I was contacted by a colleague in New York, Julio Licinio MD, an academic psychiatrist who is Publisher and CEO of a relatively new publishing house: Genomic Press: Bridging Neuroscience from Bench to Society.  Genomic Press publishes 3 online open access journals:

  1. Brain Medicine: From neurons to behavior and better health
  2. Genomic Psychiatry: Advancing science from genes to society, and
  3. Psychedelics: The journal of psychedelic and psychoactive drug research.

Access to each of these journals is available on the Press homepage  (https://genomicpress.kglmeridian.com/).

In addition to publishing high quality peer-reviewed scientific articles, the Press has developed a number of unique features, reflecting its stated goal to be “your partner in scientific communication.”  It utilizes social media and press releases to reach a global audience.  One of these novel features is referred to as “Innovators & Ideas: The Genomic Press Interview,” which uses a standard written template to “explore both the professional achievements and personal journeys that shape scientific careers.”  Individuals selected for these interviews are in 3 categories:  Rising Stars, Research Leaders, and Academic Leaders.

I was invited by Julio Licinio to be the subject of one of these interviews in the Academic Leaders category.  I agreed to do so, but only after some hesitation, and some reassurance from him that it would only reflect healthy narcissism!  For those who are interested, there is a direct link to the interview below, which also provides access to a PDF version.  You can find out probably way more than you ever wanted to know about me!
